Our exalted
leader manager to get "33" into this list! The tightest pair on the list
and the highest DI. I examined several candidates in the low power FOV
without being able to determine anything. I bumped up one step in power
and again examined several,
finally settling on one which looked to be a bit elongated. With more more bump in magnification, it was definately elongated and possibly split, and was cleanly split with the super high power. There was a very faint star to the west, perhaps about 50” or 60” away.

This looked
a challenging object on paper and in retrospect I cannot account for so
easy a split. Located near Beta Ophy, this star is conveniently located
near another star of similar magnitude. The trick is to try all powers
on both stars until
something gives. Comments; This star yielded at X200+ to reveal two similar-looking Orange stars. Ambience: We have had no rain for six weeks and yet the fog and dew tonight belong in Dickensian England. Everything dripped as I packed up. An eerie glow surrounded lamps. I have had four climatic conditions in an hour and a half tonight. Gentle dew, warmer air and a small breeze and finally serious dew and then fog. All I need is a fog horn, a cannon on the marshes and Magwitch grabbing me by the throat and demanding `wittals'. And this is my best night all month! Anyone for Scrabble? |
