Located 65 Uma by star hopping from Xsi
Uma. Xsi is red and unmissable, strongly coloured. No colour discernible
in 65UMa, but westernmost component is brighter. No need for averted vision
to split or see either component. Much better than my previous attempts
to find this one, I couldn't detect either component a couple of weeks
ago.
SMP shows 65 UMa's companion to be DN Uma. In fact, 65 Uma is listed as mag 7.0, and DN UMa is listed as mag 6.3 - 6.7. Should this bino double therefore be called "DN UMa" in the list? Whatever, nice to find it at last. SMP also shows DN itself to have two close companions (no hope of finding them in my instrument however!). Estimated PA: lies almost in E-W direction, I would say 90 degrees.
