Not too easy from my suburban
Hamburg location. First clear evening for many days. Significant light
pollution made this object's companion a challenge, but 5 Lyncis and its
companion were found by star hopping from beta Aur to delta Aur, then to
2 Lyncis (mag 4.4), all easy binocular objects from this location.
5 Lyncis itself had a distinct red-orange colour, contrasting well with 2 Lyncis to the west. No colour was discernible from its companion, SAO 25732, listed as magnitude 7.90. Sometimes the companion drifted in and out of visibility, and averted vision helped. Est. PA: 270 degrees.
