9:22pm PDT. Obvious triple even in the 30mm finder eyepiece, (35x). Primary a pure white and a full mag brighter than the two companions, (assuming the slightly further off companion is part of the system). The two companions looked to be of equal magnitude. Enjoyable at any power so I settled on my 9mm which I enjoy so much, (116x).

Ambience: Slight breeze, usual porch lights, first quarter moon and tree's. Unfortunately it's also a work night AND Daylight Saving time. Grrr.

Seeing: 6/10

Location of site: Chester, England
Site classification: Suburban
Conditions:
Sky darkness: Poor (twilight all night at this time of year; poor transparency).
Telescope: 50/540 O.G. (the Agnes Clerke refractor)
Eyepieces: fixed eyepiece
Magnification
:
x25

Ambience: Cool, still. Hedgehogs noisily blundering about in the undergrowth nearby and making inordinately loud snuffling noises as they look for food.

Comments: Easily found by starhopping from Upsilon UMa. Although the companion was rather faint, the pair was not difficult. The brighter component seemed a deep yellow colour to me. Webb describes the colours as yellow and bluish. I also suspected a blue tinge to the companion but that is inconsistent with its spectral type, so it must be a contrast effect. The field is attractive. I tried to spot NGC 3079 nearby, but despite knowing exactly where to look I failed miserably. It is large and has a low surface brightness.
