At 8:28, the bunny showed
up, represented by kappa leporis (it sounds much more threatening in Latin!).
This in fact threatened to be quite a challenge. I could see nothing double
at either low or mid power; however at high power I got a definite split.
This made me wonder why I had not seen anything at mid power, so I went
back to this EP and very careful focusing revealed a very slight, tiny
bump at the right
location. The pair together appeared yellow. At low power this pair is the end of a long chain of 7 stars that first curves slightly, and then kinks sharply.

This star is a vintage double
wisely selected by the Paolo Morini Stable. This trainer who has
come into prominence in recent years by seriously working out in a smoke-free
environment with a program that is ably facilitated by investment
in modern eyepieces.
Comments: This double was
just split by my highest power X144 tonight and much adjustment of focus
and concentration was needed. Both stars appear white and I would classify
this selection as HS2.

Difficult to split due to
the low altitude. Both components looked white to blue-white. Hey! finally
got one that has my old country colors of Finland. But this star is probably
not even visible there. Used the 3x tele-extender and video camera to get
a somewhat poor measurement of: 2.2 sec, PA 357 deg.

"A low guy struggling to
show itself"
This pair is located at 24° above the horizon, the seeing is still very bad in that area. At 120x there is an indication of elongation in vertical position. But I am not convinced and note it as "not split". "A low guy struggled out" This time the C11 was able to split this pair, although the seeing was worse then yesterday. The split could not be made clear, overlapping of the star-images was continues, but it was unmistakable and easy to see that there were two stars. Nice for a note in my log, but not a rewarding view... Rating: 3 |
