Comments:  A very nice 8m triangle lies ot the east.  Also, a nice but faint asterism lies 2' west.
Hipparchos/Tycho data show different distances for these stars; they may be an optical system.  The stars have a small difference in proper motion.

Very dim double set in NW corner of rough kite shaped  asterism made up of mag 11 stars.

Three brighter stars make a triangle to East. The two brighter stars look as if they might be a double. Upon checking they are not listed in WDS.

A fairly dim pair, both less than mag 9, but readily seen and split, even at low power. the bright one appeared to be distinctly blue to me but the dimmer companion was too faint for me to detect color.

I then spent a while cruising open and globular clusters in Scorpio and Sagitarius, which I will report on once I get them written up.

Since my observing site is right next to the west side of my garage,
I can use it as an artificial horizon to block the moon once it's
past full, at least early in the evening. I have made use of the
strategy to re-visit some pairs in Lyra this weekend to make some
measures.

This is our hottest time of year. Even this late at night (it is
currently 11:00 pm), it is 89F (32C). Even without the moon, the sky
is still pretty light - I suspect that this early is still in a
twilight condition. However, with one exception, I was able to see
all stars that I targeted clearly.

Star: Struve 2459
Date & Time: 14 Aug, 2001 ( 22:45 UT)
Seeing: 6+ <1-10 Seeing Scale (10 best)>.
Location of site: Barreras, Salamanca, Spain.
Site classification: Rural,Suburban
Conditions: no moon, fairly calm.
Sky darkness: : 5+. Much darker with the plastic curtains. <Limiting magnitude>
Telescope: Meade 8" SCt mounted on a Losmandy GM8
Eyepieces: MX5-16 CCD camara.
Magnification: n/a
Took three images and could see the double clearly in the center between a field of other stars. The results are as follows:

Doble            Epoch            PA           D
STF2459      2001.619      232.3º      13.81"
CCD average of 3 images, average of O-C residuales = 0,16". The last WDS entry in 1986 for this double was PA = 232º and D = 13.8"

The O-C residuales refers to the difference between the observed positions compared to the calculated positions.

Philippe Dejocas
Star: Struve 2459
Date & Time: August 8 2001
Seeing: 7.5 <1-10 Seeing Scale (10 best)>
Location of site: Canada
Site classification: Suburban
Conditions: Clean skies and warm temperatures.
Sky darkness: 4.5 <Limiting magnitude>
Telescope: 6inch/f5 newt
Magnification: 40x

Easy at 40x. Quite a field with those 3 relatively bright stars in the W. I got the vague impression that this double was also part of, or in front of a faint op. cluster, or at least a greater concentration of 11 mag and fter. Stars. Ciel, with the pm indicator lines, suggests that his may be the case.
