Location of site: Northern Kansas City, Missouri. 39º 15' N, 94º 30' W, 980 ft above Mean Sea Level
Site classification: Suburban
Sky darkness:  <Limiting magnitude>
Telescope: Celestron C-11
Eyepieces: 25mm Plossl
Magnification: 112x
Position:  1907+2745
Magnitudes:  9.7 (A0), 10.2, 8.7
Sep/PA's:   AB- 11.7+ / 228=,  AC- 71+ / 62-
Year of this measurement:  1997
Distance (light years):  780
Luminosity (in suns):  38
Eyepiece and magnification:  25mm Plossl (112x)

Colors noted:  B, W, W
Comments:  It is odd that C is brighter than either A or B!  There is a D star (located at 82" @ 62), but it must be very, very faint, or a variable at minimum. I could find no trace of it.
First measure AB:  10.9" @ 228.  In 1914, Franks measured 11.9".
First measure AC:  70" @ 244.  Quadrant reversal?
Hipparchos/Tycho data show different distances for these stars; they may be an optical system.
Rating:  4

Light from the Moon is starting to reach the zenith and wash out the field.  A single bright star about 80" to the East. An arc of very dim stars to West. Interesting if dim field.

A pair of dim stars, about mag 10, one a little over and one a little under. However, they are fairly wide spaced and cleanly split at low power.Just to the east is a pair of stars,  I think these are Tycho 22130-2668-1 and HD 337517. These were fairly close together, in fact I couyld confirm there were 2 until I got to high power. However, this turns out to be only an optical double.

Philippe Dejocas
Star: Struve 2458
Date & Time: August 8 2001
Seeing: 7.5 <1-10 Seeing Scale (10 best)>
Location of site: Canada
Site classification: Suburban
Conditions: Clean skies and warm temperatures.
Sky darkness: 4.5 <Limiting magnitude>
Telescope: 6inch/f5 newt
Magnification: 40x, 85x

Resolved at 40x, but better at 85x. A virtual twin of STF 2459, I estimated the sep. & pa at 15" - SWS/SW (WDS: 11.7" - 228°; 1985). I give both **½

Seeing: 6+ <1-10 Seeing Scale (10 best)>.
Location of site: Barreras, Salamanca, Spain.
Site classification: Rural,Suburban
Conditions: no moon, fairly calm.
Sky darkness: : 5+. Much darker with the plastic curtains. <Limiting magnitude>
Telescope: Meade 8" SCt mounted on a Losmandy GM8
Eyepieces: MX5-16 CCD camara.
Magnification: n/a
Took three images and could see the double clearly in the center between a field of other stars. The results are as follows:

Doble            Epoch            PA           D
STF2458      2001.619      224.7º      11.96"

CCD average of 3 images, average of O-C residuales = 0,42". The last WDS entry in 1985 for this double was PA = 228º and D = 11.7"

Ambience: Two weeks ago I finished installing a permanent post for my Losmandy GM8 mount in the village in the back of the property. The post is set in a concrete base 2ft x 2ft x 2ft. Around the mount I installed three posts to hang dark plastic curtains to block out the street lights of the village. The night of Aug. 13 I tried out the new arrangement and it worked out better than I expected. I also had a parade of visitors that night to see the new installation and to view some of the interesting objects like mars, M57 and M13. The night of Aug 14 looked very promising and I decided to try out the new arrangement by measuring two doubles in Lyra with the CCD camara using the Meade 8" SCT. I was surprised that no visitors came that night which worked out fine because of the CCD camara. I could hear the people sitting in front of their houses talking and singing which made for a nice background ambience.
