I am pretty sure that I was looking at the right star,
but am not very sure that I saw any evidence of duplicity. There might
have been some elongation at 120x, but it also could have been my eye playing
tricks on me.

Nice pair. Due to the previously misprinting of this star as Phi, I had to consult
TheSky to verify I had the right field!. (Phi is not a double star!)

Date & Time: 19- Aug-2000 (20:30UT-23:15UT ) Seeing: 6/7 <1-10 Seeing Scale (10 best)> Location of site: Cheshire. UK Site classification: Suburban Sky darkness: 4 <Limiting magnitude> Telescope: 200mm f/6 Newtonian mounted over a Vixen GP mount (manual slow motion). Magnification: X240, X120,X360 |
I needed to use X240 magnification to observe a
white primary with the secondary located at the published list. I also
observed a clean split using X360 but the seeing
ensured an unsteady view. Using X120 the secondary popped into view in moments of steady air. Even though a tight split, using X120 magnification seemed to give the best view.

Beautifully separated x84, but not split x34. A lovely delicate
pair, with an estimated PA of between 165 and 170 degrees. No colours.
Best seen x140.
