Transparency: OK to good Location of site: Larch Mountain, OR, USA Site classification: rural, (4,000 ft elevation) Temperature: Sky darkness: 5.5 <Limiting magnitude> Conditions: Cool, slight dew Telescope: Takahashi 102mm, Perspicillum Eyepieces: 7mm UO ortho Magnification: app. 117x |
Decided to try one last
semi-easy one before I packed up. The sky conditions and the dimness of
the star prevented my from going any higher than 117x, but it was cleanly
split at that. This is an example of a delicate white pair that I enjoy
just as much as many of the colorful ones. It seems you are catching this
lovely, petite couple in some dark corner out of view from the general
traffic.

With the 9mm Nagler, both
components appear as, more or less, the same magnitude. Under this seeing
and this eyepiece, there are moments where the split is clear, and other
moments when it’s unsplittable. A rather easy double.
The field at this magnification is not specially rich and I would rate this double as a 3 star one. Both components with the same color: yellowish-orangeish. With good seeing and transparency, this would be a beautiful double.
