Lots of bright stars in
the 63x field, both components are white.
Mostly seen as an elongation at 226x, but moments of clarity brought a few definite grey splits.

Another beautiful pair in
Cas, although not easy to split with this aperture. The companion is subtle
and almost lies in the first diffraction ring. At 48x not split at all,
barely at 100x and clear
at 200x. The primary is bright and white-bluish, the companion white.

I got the split with the
9mm Nagler at 91x without excessive efforts. The field is rather dense
in stars.

Ambience: Warm, hazy,
after a very hot day. The buddleias are now past their best, but
I moved the telescope further from the house tonight, so as to be able
to see as much as possible of Cassiopeia above the roof. This took
me closer to our two honeysuckle climbers, almost as fragrant as the buddleias.
A gorgeous pair. The colours are subtle and difficult to describe. The primary seems to me to be a greenish pale yellow, and its companion a pale blue or even greenish hue. Not split x48, but well seen x120 and even better x200. Interestingly, Webb describes
the colours as "grn., v. bl.", although he also gives "wh., tawny," for
another date (1850). Smyth saw this pair as a miniature of Epsilon
Bootis, describing the colours as a clear and distinct "flushed white"
and "smalt blue". He reports using a central obstruction mask to
reduce the size of the diffraction pattern when measuring this pair.
