This very wide pair is a
good one for a binoculars-list, the large magnitude difference makes it
somewhat interesting. I have observed this pair before with bino's and
spottingscope but don't know if the bright yellow color of A was noted.
Today, with 8" SCT the yellow color was striking. In contrast (though far
away) B seemed blueish. But second though and view makes me hesitate and
say it's just greyish.
A quick check with the spottingscope
of this double, which was

Another very wide pair but
with a big magnitude difference. Although I do nnot have measuring equipment
it was necessary to carefully estimate position angle to be certain which
of the three approx mag 7.5 stars in thefield was the secondary. The primary
was agaions seen as yellow. No colour seen in the secondary.

Being a wider pair I could
split this one allready through my finder (8x). Using a 20mm (75x) I could
not distinguish any colours, at higher magnification the primary seemed
to be pale blue but the fainter secondary was colour-less. One real odd
this is that in my view the secondary seemed to be a double on its own.
I will check on this again (remark: after checking with a few star-image
databases (aladin)I still do not know where I went wrong I will investigate
the matter. Forget this record please !
Well how wrong can one go
? I made a wrong turn somewhere and it seems

Delta Bootis
Date and Time: 10 June 2001 ( 22:00UT ). Seeing: 7 <1 worst - 10 best> Location of Site: Cheshire. UK. 53° 15' N -2º 33' W Site Classification: Suburban Sky Darkness: 3.0 ( UMi ) <Limiting Magnitude> Conditions: Clear break in the weather. Telescope: 200mm f/6 Newtonian mounted over a Vixen GP mount (manual slow motion). Any Quoted PA or SEP using Celestron micro guide (CMG). Magnification: X67 and X322. Eye Piece(s): 18mm Orthoscopic, CMG. |
Using a magnification
of X67 produced a wide split for this double star. The primary appeared
to be a yellow colour with the wide companion a
bluish colour. This pair showed a very nice
colour contrast even though the sky background wasn't completely dark.
