39x-Nada. 166x the comp showed up and could be seen
directly, but much better with averted. No colors and an obviously unequal
pair. (forgot the PA est...).
Ambience...other than us thin-skinned Arizonans' teeth chattering, there is little to report except for a wonderfully quiet night with the occasional car noises on a lonely desert road about 1.5 miles in the west. However, gunshots were noted at 10pm as someone stopped and took target practice at a sign of some sort on the road. I don't think that there's a sign on that road that isn't riddled with bullet holes. (And no, I'm not kidding about the gunshots or the signs...I'd be happy to provide some pictures sometime.) The soft (harsh after dark adaptation kicks in...) glow of Phoenix is
hid somewhat behind the White Tank mountains to the east, but Orion still
needs to be near the meridian to be at perfection.

As with the Otto Struve 514 At 142x, the secondary star was much fainter
than the primary. Again the primary appeared very pale yellowish-white
with the secondary a bluish whitish hue to my eye.
