Star: Struve 249
Date & Time: 21, October, 2000
Seeing: 7-8 <1-10 Seeing Scale (10 best)>.
Location of site: Phoenix, USA
Site classification: Decidedly Urban
Sky darkness: 4 <Limiting magnitude>
Temperature: about 70ºF
Telescope 90mm ETX MakCas
Magnification: 125x

After confirming with my Millenium Star Atlas, I know I'm on the right star, but not suspected as double at 39x.  83x showed elongation in the direction of 180°, but not clearly.  125x Got it!!  Fleeting glimpses when looking just North of Primary.  An almost equal pair, but not bright enough to guess at color.

Date of observations (UT): Nov 2, 2000 at 2330
Site classification: suburban
Sky conditions
seeing--  8 out of 10 (at times, approaching 9)
transparency-- 7 out of 10 (high, thin and spotty clouds, taking perhaps 1magnitude from the starlight)
limiting visual magnitude-- 4.0 mag
Telescope: Celestron C-8
Eyepiece: 7.4mm, 280 x

Year of first measurement:  1831, 2.3 / 195
Year of last measurement:  1991
Distance (light years):  453
Luminosity (in suns):  29
Eyepiece and magnification:  7.4mm, 280 x
Colors noted:  W, pL.  (Webb saw them as W and W.)  However, I am not certain about the color of B.
I rated the pair a 3.

Star: Struve 249 (ADS 1795)
Date & Time: November 10, 2000, 01:45 UTC
Seeing: 7+  (nearly full moon but still )< <1-10 Seeing Scale (10 best)>
Location of site: Pflugerville, Texas, USA  (30 degrees N.)
Site classification: Suburban
Sky darkness: 4.0 <Limiting magnitude>
Temperature: 48° F
Telescope: Vixen 80mm Fluorite, f/8  on Custom D altaz mount
Magnification: 107x (6mm Vixen Lan) & 142x (9mm Vixen Lan & 2x Ultima Barlow)

Barely but cleanly split at 107x. Slightly wider split at 142x but cleaner looking at the lower (107x) magnification.  No color noted.

Seeing: 7 <1-10 Seeing Scale (10 best)>
Location of site: Killeen, TX (Lat 31 N, Elev 600 ft)
Site classification: Suburban
Sky darkness: 4 <Limiting magnitude>
Telescope: Orion 6" Dob
Magnification: 32x, 48x, 72x, 120x, 98x (Microguide)

A very tight pair, I had to go up to 120x to split this.
Found near tol gamma And. Both members appeared blue/white to me. The PA I estimated to lie roughly in an east-west line.

Eye Piece(s): Plossl 20 mm, Plossl 10 mm,
Plossl 7.5 mm, Microguide 12.5 mm, 2x Barlow, 3x Barlow, diagonal prism

Using Plossl 20mm at 50x I saw like a single star. I saw a very close pair with Plossl 10 mm (at 100x). The best view came from using Plossl 7.5mm (at 133x), it was splendid. The colour of the primary seemed white with the secondary a dull orange colour.

The separation of the secondary was determined using the Microguide (at 263x and 500x) and an average of five measures gave 2"38 arcsecs and PA of de secondary found to be 196º.
Rating: 2

Date & Time: December 30, 2000  21.00->23.30 UTC+1
Seeing: -- <1-10 Seeing Scale (10 best)>.
Location of site: Annen, The Netherlands (53 N, 6 E)
Site classification: Village-backyard
Sky darkness: 4.5 <Limiting magnitude>
Conditions: Now and then some clouds
Temperature: -2ºC
Telescope: Meade LX10 (8" SCT)
Eyepieces: TV 40mm, Meade 25mm, TV 20mm, Vixen LV 7mm

This close double shows elongation with 100x and the suspection of the fainter companion. With 285x the split is obvious and the location of B is confirmed
